World renowned researcher Dr. Barbara Fredrickson has a simple ‘litmus test’ of 20 questions to help measure your positivity ratio. She is Kenan Distinguished Professor of Psychology and principal investigator of the Positive Emotions and Psychophysiology Laboratory (a.k.a. PEP Lab) at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. From Dr. Fredrickson’s extensive research, she discovered that experiencing positive emotions in a 3-to-1 ratio with negative ones leads people to a tipping point beyond which they naturally become more resilient to adversity and effortlessly achieve what they once could only imagine. Today, 80% of Americans fall short of the ideal 3-to-1 positivity ratio.

As with any test, it is a representation of where you and your positive emotions are at the moment, so it’s advisable to take it several times over the course of a few weeks. Click here to take Dr. Fredrickson’s 2-minute on-line quiz and see how you score.
