Mindfully Me, “Laughter”

Let laughter be part of your daily routine for self-care…
A good, belly laugh can help to relieve physical tension and relax our muscles. It boosts our immune system by decreasing stress hormones (cortisol) & boosting infection-fighting antibodies. In the brain, laughter works to trigger ‘feel-good’ neurotransmitters called endorphins. As a result, laughter can help calm our central nervous system and spread feelings of well-being throughout the whole body. It has also been shown that laughter can be an effective analgesic for genuinely relieving pain in the body.
Like exercise, laughter boosts our heart rate and increases blood flow, so we breathe faster and more oxygen is delivered to the body’s tissues. Our facial muscles stretch and we actually burn more calories when we are laughing. By reducing stress levels and increasing our energy, laughter can help us to focus and achieve more in our lives.
It may start with a spontaneous smile and then roll infectiously into laughter as we allow ourselves to be humored by something that is funny or simply pleasing. The mere act of smiling can alter our mood almost immediately. Practice smiling and let the world’s joy lighten your heart… and leave open your natural gateway to a life filled with humor & laughter.
Laughter is contagious. We want to be around people who are happy & funny. A playful point of view always seems to grab our attention… and using humor in our conversations can help to keep people interested in what we have to say. The humor & laughter we bring to others help make this world a brighter and more cheerful place to live.
There’s no better time than the present to boost yourself up with a healthy case of the giggles… laugh on!…
