Peace, joy, love, compassion, and open awareness to all…
Regardless of our religious beliefs or affiliations, there is something powerfully moving, miraculous, and transforming about the spirit of this holiday. On this day, it often inspires us to reflect and rejoice on the gifts of life- of kindness- of generosity- of forgiveness- and of LOVE. It is the universality of these values and virtues that connect us all. From love, we harmonize and we forget our differences and rejoice in our shared humanity. The eternal spirit and teachings brought forth by this holiday season course deeply in the veins of our humanity because of their direct and fundamental relationship to the essence of our nature. We live and thrive to be a part of one another; we give so others may have; we forgive to heal; and we openly receive to understand the genuine nature of love and compassion for oneself and for others.
Christmas is truly a mindful day that helps us to remember what it truly means to be human. It reminds us of the longings of our hearts to be connected to one another- to be peaceful- to be joyous- to be forgiving- and to be thankful. There are no enemies on Christmas Day, because the mind and heart cannot love and hate at the same time. On this day, we remember that we are all “brothers” and “sisters” bound by the universal aspiration to live in love, peace, and harmony.
On this day, we look deeply within so that we may reach out expansively yet intimately with the people who surround us- if not in person.. in thought… and in prayer or reflection. It is on this special day that we rediscover the sustenance that sustains us and the love that unites us. With hearts that are full, there is bountiful warmth and kindness to be shared. Even alone, you can feel the energy- the radiance and heartfelt longing for togetherness.
With all that we come to share on this day, there is nothing more special than the gift of loving continuity that we extend to our children. They not only carry the “light” of this holiday season, they radiate and reinforce its meaning for the adults who have to remember to be good teachers and stewards of this illuminating spirit. We guide our children to nourish these seeds of loving and caring tradition with the hope and intent that we will all carry forth into the coming new year a greater sense of humanity.
The genesis of our world to come is born in the hearts of our presence, and in the wakefulness of our humanity. It is our mindful awareness or wakefulness that brings our full attention to the present moment- to see that we may clearly perceive who, what, and how we are- to better understand so that we can be more understanding- and to be reborn with the wisdom to know what is wholesome for one’s own being and for the being and living harmoniously with others. Awareness is our first step in the coming new year to begin to bridge the gap toward greater peace, joy, love, and compassion. Let your heart be your guide to open your mind and to see the world and its inhabitants as it was meant to be…
