There are some 20 million Americans meditating. ABC News’s Dan Harris offers commentary on the why and how of it all. Meditation, he reports in a new ABC News’s video segment, “is now being used by the Marines, by corporate executives from General Mills to Target to Google, by students in classrooms all over America, and now — according to a new study — by roughly three million patients, on the recommendation of their doctors.”

In the video, Re-Wiring Your Brain for Happiness: Research Shows How Meditation Can Physically Change the Brain, Harris interviews Richie Davidson, PhD, Founder of the Center for Investigating Healthy Minds, on the effects meditation has on the brain. Davidson is a keynote speaker at the forthcoming Creating a Mindful Society conference in NYC, where he will showcase recent findings that illustrate how training the mind can change the brain in ways that promote mental and physical well-being.

In a second video,Changing Your Life Through Meditation, Harris gives some simple meditation instructions that can by used by everyone. As Harris says, meditation doesn’t have to include “wearing robes, chanting, lighting incense, or joining a religious group.” Meditation is for everyone. Roughly 3 million US patients are now meditating on recommendation of their doctor.
