Mindfully Me, ‘Resilience’

Resilience is strengthening our ability to skillfully accept, cope, and adjust to stressful, adverse, or difficult situations. It’s our ability to ‘bounce back’… to recover… and to move on with things.

Resilience is nourished with positive emotions and experiences. Kids need to be kids. They need to discover the pleasure & humor of life. They need support and simple acknowledgement of their feelings. Kids need to genuinely feel accepted & supported by their significant others for them to build & strengthen resilience.

Whether young or old, we all need to be aware and to regulate our thoughts & feelings when faced with experiences that make us more vulnerable to our reactionary tendencies. How we ‘attend’ to our own mind- with curiosity and kindness- can ultimately help us better cope and adapt to new and uncertain situations.

Being flexible and open to different courses of action, we are less likely to be weighed down by what challenges us to simply hang in there. Be patient as the most effective response to a difficult situation may not always be apparent. Be courageous and confident to trust difficulty as a means to become stronger and wiser to what our experiences may be simply trying t0 teach us.
