Anatomy of Habit Energy

We are by nature volitional beings- to either live in habituation or in awareness.
To live free of our habituated patterns- free of the cognitive & emotional hijacking- is to live in awareness. In general, this purposeful path cannot be embraced without the realization that this is deep, insightful, spiritual work that is destructive in nature. In essence, as a Spiritual Warrior (i.e. Bodhisattva) on a path of conscious awareness, we will need to break down the very foundation of the emotional core which supports many of our projections or storylines within our own experiences. To recover our true nature of free attention and open awareness – the mindsight of our “observing self”- we need to reclaim ourselves from the habituated patterns which may run our lives. For many, these habituated patterns create suffering for us and for others. They are complex, layered, webbed (i.e. interconnected components of other patterns), and often deeply rooted in the belief systems, emotional cores, and infra-structures of our personalities. Over time, our habit energy crystallizes so we both act and react in certain ways habitually. Both it and our pre-dispositions strengthen as they run outside of our conscious awareness.
Our virtual identities and storylines foster codes of behavior subject to these reactionary patterns- they serve to protect when threatened. We are the way we are because complex patterns of reactions develop into structures of our personalities. They become self-reinforcing and self-evolving. Renunciation becomes our path with the determination to leave behind the life of reactive patterns. This volitional decision to move forward is predicated upon recognizing our projected world of reactive emotions and habituated patterns will only continue to cause us suffering, separation, and isolation from our true nature to live openly aware with liberation, peace, loving-kindness, compassion, and joy. Our proclamation is to be done with patterned existence, confusion, and a tormented heart. As a result, we become refugees leaving behind what has become, in many instances, intolerable.
Our way out of this confusion of patterned existence is through the outlook of open awareness. It is through our open awareness and free attention where we begin to see deeply how things really are and how to change them. All experience consists of arising and subsiding in our free attention and open awareness. Patterns are mechanisms- they have no awareness of the consequences of their operation. Patterns die when you die to their operation.
This transmuted outlook is the fundamental basis for Mindful Intelligence. In embracing this path, we wake up to a life of living fully without attachment or fear of old habits, past conditioning and reactionary patterns. We open our inner space of mind and of heart to the jewel that lies within us all- to a transformative energy of presence. You cannot be awake and self-absorbed at the same time… the choice is yours.
